            Saturday night.  My body was sore all over.  I wanted to give myself some time to heal, so I made zero sprints.  I didn’t even time the trek at the spots where I usually sprint.  A close observer will see that I did this run after 10 in the evening.  This was because the weather forecast called for rain beginning at midnight.  I wanted to get the run in so I wouldn’t get wet.

            So, on the 10th, I ran to the location of the World Academy of Tirana.  This is place where I have begun a long-term substitute teaching job. It was located where I thought, but I got there via a different route.  All is well.

            Saturday, I made the goal on the downhill sprint by 2-tenths of a second.  I forced it.  Several times during what seemed like the longest minute of the month, I consciously urged my legs and arms to add speed.

            The sprint up the hill, record being 1:03 (a bit more than a minute), took 1:18.  I was clumping along, feeling quite uncomfortable.  BUT, after running around town to my usual spots, doing some pull-ups, and sprinting up and down the steps of the university near Mother Theresa Square, I came back to the spot and ran downhill the same stretch.  I made my goal of 1 minute by 12 one-hundredths of a second!  Happy times!!

            Yesterday, the last day of January, in the morning, I ran to retrieve something Maxim had forgotten from his mom’s house.  On the way, I did the ‘classic’ sprint in the park.  During the sprint, I genuinely felt like I was “pulling the (proverbial) plow.”  This phrase harkens back to my days playing high school baseball when we would accuse other players, especially those on the other team, of running like he was pulling a plow on the way to first base.
