Saturday, I made the goal on the
downhill sprint by 2-tenths of a second.
I forced it. Several times during
what seemed like the longest minute of the month, I consciously urged my legs
and arms to add speed.
Sunday, I missed my goal by 7-tenths
of a second—a lifetime. During this
hours-long minute, I again was telling my legs and arms to give me speed. The problem may have been the bag of material
I was carrying. I had run through the park to the boys’ apartment to retrieve
Oskar’s stuffed animal, and a play script so he could practice for the
audition.
