So the dam run was terrific today. I didn’t start with great vim, I was simply running quickly. I felt great as I glided down the concrete, doing a bit of weaving around walkers. The result?

The run down the dam was pretty good, the best so far, though my records appear to indicate that I ran faster—1:43.14—on the 5th of May.  I believe now that on that day, I must have gotten the ending point incorrect.

Oh my goodness!!! A sub 50-second Classic sprint!! A milestone. And I wasn’t even thinking that it was a possibility. Less than 2 months ago, on March 26, I ran my slowest Classic sprint because of severe leg pain.

Just yesterday, I wrote about the advantages of running on the ground rather than on the pavement. The ground is softer, more pliable, spongier you might say, and easier on the knees.  There is more give and the joints aren’t stressed as much. I still believe this.

More than ½ second faster on the classic sprint today! Breaking these records quite exhilarating and fun—even if they are not true records. It gives me a sense of accomplishment that I have done something significant.

I guess the legs are truly beginning to be normal—or at least as close to normal as they can get. I started the classic sprint today with the same feelings I remember having in the good ol’ days. I was forcing the legs to move, there was a small amount of pain, but nothing terrible.

We were at the beach at Dhermi this weekend. It was lovely. We were in a small town of a couple hundred people and few tourists. Albanians are interesting in the fact that they don’t get into the vacation spirit until July. We were here even last year at the end of June and there were few people around.

After a couple days of rain, this was another beautiful day. My second try at the dam sprint, I shattered my earlier record by nearly a quarter minute. Such success is a tribute to my habit of taking it easy and sandbagging it on the inaugural run. I ran faster, but the legs were still painful. The thing is that they are more loose than recently.

A beautiful day. A holiday recognizing 1 May. The park was full of people even at the late time when I began the run—10 am.  During the final sprint, I forced myself to sprint. My legs were hurting, but they weren’t giving me the grief that I became used to during the last several months of tightness and unwillingness to even move. Dodging around the puddles and broken concrete, while I didn’t achieve another record, my time was surely respectable.
