9, nearly 5 seconds were shaved from the record time on the steps. I have no explanation for this. A possible
inaccuracy on the recording device, but we shall see during future
efforts.

This
morning, I went to the pool before going to sign the lease for next year, and
then to the embassy to start the criminal background check that is needed for the Albanian residency permit. The new
place will be near not only the boys, but the pool, the embassy, the chicken
shack...
Anyway, as I got in the water, I was struck by its clarity. The sun was high overhead, unlike the evenings when I've visited with the boys. Underwater, I could see the entire pool like I was looking through windows recently cleaned by a conscientious cleaning woman. I swam half a lap and then started the watch for the return trip doing the leg-only backstroke. I was fresh, I was eager, and my legs were fluttering like Kazakh butterflies. I was surprised to see that I had done it 22% faster than the first time—some days ago. As you can see above, I got a time of 1:02.06. For 20 minutes, I (leisurely) swam 9.5 laps. The last half lap, I performed another L-only B. stroke. I thought I was swimming comparably to my first effort earlier in the day. My legs were churning the cool, clear water like an egg beater—or so I thought. The result—another 1:20 effort. Hmmm... Well, at least with these little bursts of energy, I’m straining my muscles for more than a minute.
