After a
couple weeks camping and visiting wilderness and picking up the boys in the
eastern part of the country, I found myself back in Johnston, at my sister’s
house. I began the run as usual, loping gently down the road. I soon realized,
however,
that my knee was giving me pain. So, I walked. I was carrying a couple “books” back to the library. I put the quotation marks because they were not really books, but instead some kind of playback device. It’s an instrument from days before iPods and iPhones. A listener would need to add a battery and a pair of headphones in order to listen to the recording. No good for my purposes.
After the journey to the library, I walked to a Quik Shop convenience store as a diversion. After concentrating for some minutes, I left the store with my knee feeling great, or at least not painful. I went to the beginning of the Dewey Sprint. Before the trip in early July, I had run this sprint in slightly more than one minute. It was amazing that even while I ran, I considered how long it was taking for me to run this event. I was sure I was on pace for this high goal, and I was. I thought that a 60-second finish would be good for me. Hoo-Rah! Or so I thought… I looked back at the earlier records and discovered that the record is a palindromic, 56.65! The point is that I am running at full speed with no limitations.

A truly
delightful state of affairs.
