After
yesterday’s bounce over the handlebars, I made the final sprint in under 50
seconds. Yes, this will be my standard to determine if things are going well—under
50 seconds good, over 50 seconds needs work.
And the mid-run Dam Sprint was
nearly 3 seconds slower than the record pace of yesterday, but it was still
faster than every other time in history. I should be satisfied; and I am.

The mind works in
both ways. It can make you believe that you are running slowly, when you aren’t;
it can make you think that you are running at the absolute top of your ability,
but soon you achieve greater results. Today, my mind had me believing during
the classic sprint that I was moving like a gust of wind on the way to a
tornado party. I was picking the legs up and moving the arms…man, I was moving!
I finished, huffing and puffing, walking around like I owned the place. I
looked down at my watch—What?!? 51 seconds?!? How can that be? The big thing, I
guess is that I am feeling wonderful. Arms, legs, hips, feet—all moving like
water through a hole in a plastic bag.
But! Though the
classic sprint was a disappointment at the end of the run, the Dam Sprint in
the middle of the run was a record-breaker. Life is good.
