On my last effort to break the 60-second barrier, I failed. The careful reader of this blog is not used
to descriptions of failure falling from my fingertips; I try to find the
happiest silver lining in every situation.
But, ho! If this is my biggest
failure of the nearest months, I’m fine.
As I’ve said before, the psychological element is quite
important. When I saw the stain on the
landing between floors 13 and 14, and I knew that there were 2.5 flights to go,
my legs inexplicably felt a letdown. Did
my total speed fall? I’m not sure—I often
feel the concrete fill my legs, but I have made a decent time on those
occasions.
