22? Really? Wow!

I’ve written a few times about the impact psychological effects can have on running.   If I’ve been working all day, or if it’s hot—or I THINK I’ve been working all day, or I if I THINK it’s hot—I might run slower.   Little stresses become big.  In the same way, if I’m feeling good,
or if I have just received an invitation to a job interview (while I’m looking for a job), or if a motivational song comes into my ear buds, I might put my knees up and down more quickly.
Well, today I discovered, not surprisingly, that the same is true for pull-ups.  IN THE MIDDLE OF MY RUN, that’s right…not at the beginning while my muscles are fresh, but in the middle, after 36 pull-ups already, I equaled my record.  While running, out of the corner of my eye, I happened to see a playground area.  Each of these playgrounds has its own play set of swings, climbing bars, ladders, ‘monkey bars’, etc.  I can usually find something suitable where I can do pull-ups.  I got lucky this time, because there was a free-standing bar specifically designed for pull-ups.  What’s more is that the bar was a super-thin diameter.  It felt so good to hold it that my brain didn’t want to let go.  I did 16 without stopping and without even being reminded by my arms that it was difficult.  I finished with 22!
