No zeros
this time, but I broke 1 minute. Very
cool. I was LESS stressed out today than
the previous two efforts. Maybe I was in
a generally good mood. Listened to Wait,
Wait—so nice that we can laugh at everything.
Ah,
ha!!! Zeros again! I was allowed, by my own rules, to run
up only 6 flights of stairs again
today. Even though I sprinted 3 tenths
of a second faster than yesterday, I was LESS out of breath and worn out. I think because I began the sprint today in a
bit less than full speed. I was simply
running at probably 95%.
I love to see
those zeros! I think I was the most
weary of any run after the mid-run sprint.
I started out very fast, putting everything into it. By the time I was finished, I was pulling the
ankles out of thick concrete. I wish I
could see myself as I finish—it feels like I am putzing along at a snail’s
pace. I knew I needed to run quickly,
.4 seconds
today meant that I had to run the full 16 flights in our apartment building. Ugh. I
certainly can’t blame people who necessitate dodging of pedestrians and dogs—there
were only two people on the entire sprint area.
I did think ,
Very
difficult today. I really struggled with
the leg ups. My gut was hurting. I missed being allowed to run only 6 flights
of stairs by 43 one-hundredths of a second.
You can’t even imagine .43 seconds.
It’s gone before you can organize your thoughts.
Ran only
the stairs one time today. I got outside
and I decided to wait until I could run an errand at the same time. Then things changed and I never got back
The snow is
nearly gone. The temp. tomorrow is
supposed to be 70 degrees F. There are
playgrounds all over the place, so I did several pull-ups today. I did some leg ups with the arms straight—after
5 reps, I wondered why it was so difficult.
The problem
with running and being successful is that to maintain this level, I have to try
really hard every day. And what’s more,
when you get a good result, the thrill is not nearly as satisfying. Today, I broke the 1-minute barrier. You might say I cheated a bit—I walked for
some
I pulled my
legs up higher today on the leg ups. So
even though it is mostly an abdominal exercise, my hamstrings were stressed at
the upper limit, and even my quads were feeling it. With a beginning
temperature of 4 degrees, I left my plastic pants at home for the first time
since October.
What a
great day! The sun was up long before
me, which is really nice. The sidewalks
were mostly clear, although I did step through some ice to get my foot wet.
Yes, the
snow and ice have vanished from the sidewalks, but for only the second time
this winter, I slipped and fell to the ground.
Around the pull-up bar and squat area, there is plenty of packed ice, so
I bit the dust this morning.
The snow
and ice are gone from the sidewalks—only water here and there. Now the workers are throwing the snow around
so it will melt faster. A terrific run
today. I broke 1 minute by 13 one-hundredths. I was beginning to worry that I may have
pushed the buttons on my watch incorrectly, and accidentally gave myself an undeserved
record.
“What are
you?!? You don’t see nothing? My little one flew into the air; his wits were
damaged!” These are only a few of the
possible words that may have been hurled toward me by a babushka (stress on the
first syllable /BAH-boosh-ka/) who had been walking her dog down my sprint
venue-- Marshall Roccosovskovo Boulevard.
