WHAM!! like a cartoon character

431 words; several pics
Walking back from my lesson this morning at 9:15, I slipped right down.  It was unlike any slippage I’ve experienced before—one second, walking normally,
then WHAM! down like a cartoon character slipping on a banana peel--luckily, my books padded my fall.  A woman meeting me going the other way looked at me with pity as I took the hand she offered to help me up.  I swear, I heard this as my feet flew out from under me:

And I was worried about slipping while I was running.  Ha.

Some pics of Moscow:

One of my exercises wanted adults at the elementary to come up with sentences about the pictures.  I wanted to demonstrate the difference between, “This is a picture OF a bank.”  and  “There is a bank IN the picture.”  Only a couple hours before, when it was still light out, of course, I had taken a picture of the street near the school.  As luck would have it, there was a bank IN the picture.  It is difficult for those of you who haven’t seen this bank to recognize the sign, but it is quite clear to those who are used to seeing it.

This is the picture of the street with a bank IN it:

Here are some pictures of the construction site near my previous room.

This whole operation is quite curious.

The idea of prisoners digging a hole only to fill it back in comes to mind.  I imagine the workers don’t mind because they are getting paid their small salaries, but it seems to me that someone is looking for an excuse to burn through money.

This picture shows a sidewalk that was made and remade.  The ground was leveled nicely and soil installed.  Grass was planted and started to come up.  One week later, all was torn up and the hole started at the other end of the street extended.

I took a picture of this menu at a Subway because I loved the words written in the desert column.  Under Десерты (desserts) there is Кукис.  It seemed very strange to me, so I read it carefully.  K—oo—k—ee—s.  Kookis.  Ah!  Cookies!  Each one--$1.66.  The bottom shows prices for the four kinds of beer on tap.
