Ultimate Frisbee--better than NFL

Back out to the forest today on a beautiful morning.  I’ve taken to doing more pull-ups at each attempt.  Not sure why.  It was great fun to run around and around in circles aimlessly.
All kinds of puppies around, too.
Differently than the first time in the forest, I listened to my iPod.  One of the stories concerned the errant call by the referee in the Packers/Seahawks game.  True, this call was bad, but I saw the Packers’ quarterback get sacked about 8 times.  I think they deserved to lose.  Ha!
This brings up the whole issue of referees in the first place.  Why rely on someone outside of the game to tell you what is correct?  Why not let the players themselves decide?  Everyone would need to recognize the inherent need to be fair and friendly.  I can hear you saying, “What a joke!”  “It’ll never happen!”  It may never happen in professional football because the precedent is already in place.  But what about another sport?

Ultimate Frisbee had been self-regulated since its inception in New Jersey in the 1969.  Players call their own fouls, they decide if a catch was made, they decide if they were out of bounds.  If there is a conflict, then the play is run again.  I believe UF would be a fantastic sport—there is a lot of action, dramatic plays, and heaps of statistics could be kept.  In addition, unlike European Football (Soccer) there is a lot of scoring.  The rules are not complicated…they may be difficult to understand when seeing the game only once.  But really…look at hockey!  What is ‘icing’ anyway?

I have yet to discover where there is Ultimate here in Moscow, but it will happen.
