Peace Pilgrim

Back in Moscow.  Ran toward a pool nearby.  Stopped in to find out the prices and times.  350 rubles ($11.50) for one visit and no discount for a monthly, 4 visit pass.  It makes me wonder why anyone would purchase a membership.

While running, I listened to a This American Life episode about a young man who set out to emulate the Peace Pilgrim—a woman who spent 28 years walking through the US, Canada, and Mexico.  As the Pilgrim did, this guy was going to rely on the generosity of others for food and shelter.  He began in Delaware after giving away all his stuff and money.  It’s a great story:  http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/483/self-improvement-kick

While running, coming the other way was a young woman.  I was surprised to see someone running, she looked surprised to see me.  I was pleasantly surprised to see smile when I waved.  I continued for a minute and then remembered how I had thought earlier that if I saw anyone else running, I would ask them if they wanted to run together.  I turned around and ran up to her—no small task because she was running quite quickly.  Luckily for me, almost immediately when I caught her, she was finishing her run.  It turns out that she is something of a professional runner, living in a dormitory beside the swimming pool.  She took my phone number and gave me a call so I would have her number…maybe we will run together—in her residence, there are many runners, so if not her maybe someone else.
